Tercel provides Total Depth Solution to combat challenging well
An ERD well was drilled in the North Sea to a TD of 5,952m. The operator needed to run a 2,000m slotted liner with swell packers to TD, pushing it entirely into the horizontal section. However, drilling through hard and soft formation at awkward angles to the wellbore left many washouts and ledges, and a high potential for collapsed hole and swollen shale sections.
The completion could not be rotated to help the string past such obstacles because of the pipe's limitations. Tercel provided several complementary tools to combat these challenges: SwivelMASTER®, EzeeGLIDER®, NaviGATOR™ and SlickSHOE™. They allowed the string to be worked past obstructions at the nose, while providing insurance in case available hookload was ever lost.

Microcore Bit improves drilling performance and formation sample quality
The Microcore™ Bit (MCB™) allows the continuous generation of successive micro-cores of the formation being drilled in the center area of the bit, where the cutting structure is interrupted. This process occurs continuously as drilling progresses.
While drilling,
the micro-core advances to its nominal size and reaches a core breaker. A lateral force is then applied on the micro-core, inducing the failure. The micro-core is led to the annulus via an evacuation area. This area is a larger and deeper slot between the 2 front blades. This evacuation area always remains open, preventing any risk of bit plugging. By comparison to conventional drill bits and thanks to its specific design, the MCB offers drilling performance improvement and high quality samples for formation evaluation.
